Small shadows on the surface

Colour is only one part of a fluted timber base. Repeated grooves create small shadows that change with the direction of light, making the same table appear deeper or quieter at different times. Alongside a flat colour sample, ask to see a sample that actually includes the grooved surface.

Relating one rhythm to another

When combining a fluted table with striped wall finishes or other closely spaced elements, consider the overall density of repetition. Every surface need not carry the same rhythm. Plain chair backs and quiet fabrics can give the base enough contrast for its texture to remain legible from across the room.

Details within reach

Check the finish instructions to understand how the grooves should be included in routine cleaning. With Aslan Atelier, examine where the fluting starts and ends, how corners turn and how the base meets the floor. A useful review considers the distant silhouette and the close-up construction together.
