01 / OUR STORY

Learned far from home.
Brought to life at our roots.

Some journeys begin with a destination.
Others begin with the need to give shape
to what we carry within.

Traditional joint joint detail in wood
The traces of a lifetime.
A future yet to be written.
“In every piece we join,
there are scattered traces of life.”

I / WHAT SILENCE TEACHES

First, listen to the wood.

Behind Aslan Atelier is a design journey shaped by years spent studying sashimono in Japan and mastering this delicate art of wood joinery. Those years taught more than a technique. Waiting, trying again and finding where a piece belongs without forcing it were all part of the learning.

Understanding the grain, resistance and silence of wood. Finding strength in the way the parts fit together. That patience still shapes the atelier’s approach to making.

II / BEYOND BORDERS

Different spaces, the same search.

In time, this experience reached Europe and America. Design and consultancy work with companies and designers opened a way to understand the language of different spaces and different lives.

Each project returned to the same questions: How does an object belong in its surroundings? Why does a surface move us? The answers changed; the attention to detail remained.

III / RETURNING HOME

Some homecomings are unplanned.

Then a devastating fire at home changed the course of this journey. The return was not a date marked on a calendar, but a response to a loss that called us back to our roots.

From then on, making became a way to express what had happened without putting it into words. Aslan Atelier’s language took shape where years of perseverance, skills learned far from home and the traces left behind came together.

IV / THE SECOND LIFE OF WOOD

A new beginning, with the past intact.

We do not use new timber in our wooden pieces. We work with wood from an old mountain house in Russia, a hundred-year-old building on the Black Sea, or a dismantled home in Konya or eastern Türkiye. Sometimes a piece reclaimed after a fire joins this journey too.

None of these stories begins at our workbench. The wood once supported a roof, held the sounds of a home and gathered the marks of years. We follow its grain and knots and listen to its character. We want the traces of its past to remain present in its new form.

Some stories are felt rather than told.
In a surface, in a joint, in a single touch.
