A repeated rhythm across the surface

Repeated slats add another pattern of lines alongside the colour and grain of timber. Seen from the end in the photograph, the meeting between those lines and the surrounding frame becomes particularly clear. Slats running along the length of a piece create a different directional impression from those arranged across it. Consider the direction from which the furniture will usually be seen.

Look closely at the spacing

Spaces between slats affect both appearance and everyday use. Assess the surface alongside the small objects, serving pieces and textiles you intend to place on it. Table details inspired by The Mia Kalkan can help you judge how objects sit on the surface. Examining gaps and edge finishes in a sample makes a bespoke furniture discussion much more concrete than relying on an empty table photograph.

A detail completed by its frame

At Aslan Atelier, the surrounding frame belongs to the same design decision. The thickness of the outer edge, corner joints and relationship with the legs change how strongly the repeated lines are perceived. For care, use the finish information for the selected piece. This allows timber furniture for a Kalkan home to be considered through practical details as well as the pattern visible in a photograph.
