Recording the surrounding arrangement
If only the sofa is being replaced before wider renovation, record the existing setting first. The table, rug, curtains and socket positions all influence the new piece. Rather than repeating the old width automatically, note which everyday movements feel comfortable and which feel constrained to define what should change.
Separating temporary and lasting choices
If the new sofa will eventually sit beside another floor or wall colour, review both stages. Prepare separate material notes for the current room and the planned one. A short-term match need not determine the dimensions and function of a piece intended to remain through later changes.
Using one current set of dimensions
