Looking only at mattress size can overlook the space occupied by the footboard itself.
In everyday use
Keep the everyday route from the bed to the wardrobe or bathroom clear. If adding a bench, check whether it conceals the footboard or narrows the passage. In a smaller bedroom, leaving the foot of the bed simple can preserve the furniture’s character while making movement easier.
